We’re excited to announce the release of the LibCommon project’s first major publication: Overview of the Relevant Literature. This collaborative report lays the theoretical foundation for reimagining libraries and universities as commons-based, participatory environments that foster inclusive education, civic engagement, and democratic innovation.
The document explores how institutions can shift from traditional knowledge transmission to community-driven co-creation, highlighting key concepts such as educational commons, participatory design, and the evolving role of libraries in promoting equity and active citizenship.
The 6th Panhellenic Conference on the Sociology of Education, titled “Education as a Common Good: Democracy, Activism, and Society,” was co-organized by the Department of Early Childhood Education and the Department of Primary Education at the University of Thessaly, in collaboration with the Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Ioannina.
This collaborative effort brought together scholars, teachers, students, policy makers, journalists, and activists to explore education as a commons and a catalyst for democratic transformation.
